Summer Camp 2010 at Camp Crucis

Our theme is “Praying through the Year with Jesus.”

Every Year, the Church’s seasons carry us through the full cycle of Jesus’ life, from His nativity in Bethlehem to His death on the Cross, His Resurrection and Ascension into glory. These great events of Christ’s earthly life will be the focus of this year’s Summer Camp. Every day, through prayer, we have a chance to know Him better. Prayer gives us the strength, hope, and wisdom we need to do all that God has planned for us. Our theme is “Praying through the Year with Jesus.”

Every step of the way, we’ll see how prayer puts all the pieces together: It’s a
light to help us understand the past, and a bright star to guide us into the future. It’s always in season, and it always fits. You can take it home with you, and you can share it with your friends!

As always we will have fun learning to do this in God’s Garden, enjoying the activities of sports, arts & crafts, music, swimming, nature, and horseback riding. We will be adding new things like archery to sports, percussion instruments to music time, and new exploring activities in nature. There is time set aside for worship, teaching, as well as just good old clean fun and fellowship. Summer Camp at Camp Crucis is more than just an adventure. It is a life changing experience in a safe and nurturing environment. A clergy volunteer is resident at the camp throughout the session; our paid and volunteer staff sees to it that everyone has a good time in a safe wholesome atmosphere. Three meals are served each day and snacks from the canteen are served twice daily. Each camper receives a T-shirt at registration and takes home a group photo when the session ends. Parents are encouraged to attend the session’s closing worship service and then join us for dinner and a slideshow before saying goodbye.

Pee Wees and Parents is special time at Camp Crucis. This is an opportunity for Mom or Dad (or Grandma or Grandpa) to participate right alongside a young camper who is between 4 years old (prekindergarten) and 3rd grade. This session is ideal for the first-time camper and allows parents to get in on the fun of summer camp, too!

Confetti Sessions focus on the elementary school ages, grades K through 6, in a fun, spirit-filled Christian community. The confetti conference is a great opportunity for these ages to have fun and grow in their walk with Christ within the camp atmosphere.

Intermediate Session places an emphasis toward the needs and interests of the youth grades 3rd - 8th. These youth have fun, fellowship, and the chance to grow spiritually within a dynamic Christian community.

Teen session focus on our teens in grades 7 through 12. Our Senior High session is open to all teens who have completed the 10th through the 12th grades. Our two Junior High session are for teens who have completed the 7th through the 9th grades. Within a loving, accepting Christ-centered community, teens are challenged to develop their spiritual life. This is a fun, joyful community of Christian faith development.

Horse Camps allow young equestrians to enjoy themselves while maintaining a high priority on safety. Each camper is assigned a horse to feed, groom, ride, and learn about through out the week. Every rider receives individual instruction at his or her skill level. All activities are under the direct supervision of our CHA-certified instructor, Sara Bontke, and her staff. Our equestrians stay in cabins with other campers according to their age. They have the same amount of time riding and learning about their horses, then enjoy the afternoon and late evening activities with the rest of the camp. Sessions are geared toward riders. There are three levels of camp from which to choose.

The Young Adult session is for 19-year-olds and up. This session will include all of the usual camp activities in a relaxed atmosphere, with time to build relationships and enjoy Christian fellowship. Theme sessions will be geared
around issues that our young adults are facing daily.

Mission Camps are a little different from our traditional camps. This is an opportunity for our children to have the experience of going on mission, from the
preparation of asking for donations and supplies to the debriefing when they return. Each camp begins with team-building and training for the particular mission work that is planned. Mission I (3-6 grades) will make short trips into Granbury and the Hood county community to help at food pantries, clothing shops, and visit nursing homes. Mission II (7-12 grades) will return to the Alamo New Mexico to continue helping on a Navajo reservation where work was begun in 2009.
